Highlights this morning

Four Roseate Tern and three Common Sandpiper could be seen from Crittal Hide this morning.
Also five Little Egret on the Quarry and 18 Gannet offshore.
The Bramble Bushes leading up to Lime Kiln Cottage are now full of Gatekeeper Butterflies, at least 100+ this morning.

Highlights Today

The movement of 1000+ Swifts was the main highlight from the Beach Reserve this morning.
At Castle Water this morning:
3 Little Ringed Plover
4 Green Sandpiper
1 Common Sandpiper
2 Greenshank
2 Garganey
Kingfisher and a Hobby

This afternoon Two Spoonbill arrived at Ternery Pool

Highlights Today

At Ternery Pool this afternoon 3 Roseate and 7 Black Tern could be seen.
This morning 17 Little Tern chicks were present on Shore Ridges.

24th June 2005, Friday

A Few Highlights This Morning

Two Roseate Terns were present at Ternery Pool this morning along with a Little Gull and Avocet. Five Bar Tailed Godwit and 14 Curlew could be seen from the sea bank at Crittall Hide. Common Tern pairs have reached 140 with Ternery Pool being the main site.

Beach Reserve This Morning

The Wader Pool attracted 22 Redshank with 27 also on Flat Beach.
At Ternery Pool one Roseate Tern plus another 15 Redshank.
Along the Shore 200+ Sandwich Tern were roosting. And an Arctic Skua was chasing Common Terns offshore.
Hobby was also seen at Harbour Farm and Long Pit.

Ternery Pool This Morning

The Roseate Tern was on the small island out from Crittall Hide and 350+ Sandwich Tern were roosting on the shingle bank. A Hobby was also present at Harbour Farm

A Few Bird Highlights

Water Rail with chicks at Ternery Pool plus Greenshank and Little Gull.
Two Little Ringed Plover and Three Hobby at Castle Water.
This morning the first Little Tern chick was seen.

Breeding Birds at Rye Harbour 2005

Oystercatcher – 26 pairs. Comparable to 2004
Ringed Plover – 30+ pairs. Somewhat lower numbers than 2004. Survival rate of chicks seems to be low. Read the rest of this entry »
