Redshank
10th April 2012, Tuesday
At this time of year the redshank develops a spottier breeding plumage and brighter orange legs and they also start sitting on fence posts to give them a good view of dangers to their nest and in a few weeks their chicks. A good place to get close views is at the Denny hide, overlooking the quarry. Sadly the wintering spotted redshank hasn’t stayed to show us its all black breeding plumage (with no spots!)
