Sawbills
With only small areas of open water today at Ternery Pool, Long Pit and Castle Water the wildfowl were concentrated. The highlight was the sawbills with 10 goosander and 5 smew (2 drakes) at Long Pit and another 4 goosander at Ternery Pool.

Six Bewick’s Swan and 21 White-fronted Geese where a nice addition to the usual crowd at Castle Water this morning, the Bewick’s dispersed at day break heading over Northpoint Pit and the the White-front’s lingered a little longer but eventually left amongst a group of Canadas. Additional highlights included 2 Bittern (both in flight), Water Rail and several Snipe infront of the hide, Wigeon, Shoveler, Teal and Gadwall were around in reasonable numbers the colours on all the drakes look stunning in the winter sunshine.
