Volunteers for National Trust at Winchelsea

16th March 2011, Wednesday

We are looking for volunteers to help us with a variety of tasks across the Winchelsea Property Portfolio including the Royal Military Canal, Wickham Manor and Crutches Farm at Winchelsea, Old Marsham Farm and Market Wood at Pett Level and Telham Fields near Battle.

Current projects include practical tasks such as scrub clearing along the Royal Military Canal, pedestrian gate installation and fencing at various points across the whole estate and boardwalk creation at Wickham Cliff. There is also on-going monitoring of birds, Water Voles and Dragonflies
We also manage a small, predominantly Sweet Chestnut coppice woodland between Pett Level and Fairlight. As well as the annual coppice we are working on widening the rides, creating glades and re-instating a wet woodland area. There will also be opportunities to get involved with charcoal burning, green woodwork and helping us construct a woodland hut!
If you would like to be a part of any of these projects we would love to hear from you. No previous experience is necessary and training will be provided. Please email kelly.payne@nationaltrust.org.uk for more information.
