Not a bad morning at Pett
Sunday 5th September 2010. I started at the Pools and on the sea wall, for a change there was something moving over the sea, with a large movement of Sand Martin and Swallows heading east all morning, in the bay there was 4 Arctic Skua, which settled on the sea, until some more Terns flew over them, and then there would attack them from the sea, and afterwards they would go back to the sea again, they were about for about an hour doing this, before heading off east. Also on the seaward side 30/40 Gannets and 6 Common Scoter. On the marsh side, there were 5 Ruff, 4 Knot, 3 Dunlin and 4 Little Stint which all flew around the Wader Pool, in the hoping of landing, before flying off over the sea wall, not all seen at the same time but spaced out through the morning. The flood was not too busy, due to the water level, but it was still good for birds of prey with Barn Owl, 2 Kestrel (1 pair) 2 Hobby, 1Marsh Harrier (male) 2 Sparrow Hawk and 6 Buzzards seen together ( I`m sorry to say that I missed that sighting ) also a Kingfisher and 2 Spotted Flycatcher. Good bird watching Pete.
