Castle Water
Peak counts of roosting Little Egret normally occur in this month, so a dawn visit to Castle Water found 64 birds leaving the roost. Since last year the roosting birds had split into two groups with most birds favouring the islands on the main pit, instead of the traditional site which could be seen from the Viewpoint. It seems now that all birds are roosting on the main pit which makes counting a bit easier. Additional highlights included at least 6 Hobbies which must have roosted nearby as they appeared at first light, 9 Green Sandpiper which dispersed in various directions and a Barn Owl.
