More marbled whites

A further marbled white was flying in the hay meadows to the east of Moneypenny today, pointing to the wider establishment of the species to the east of the Rother.  I also saw one in a wide ride in Hamstreet Woods last Friday.

Marbled Whites at Northpoint

On the river bank by Northpoint Pit this evening I was surprised to find 5 Marbled Whites. This was right opposite the N. side of Castle Water where the species now has a well-established population. Although less than 500 metres away, it’s still nice to find them east of the river where there is plenty of suitable habitat.

Creeping Thistle

Small patches of Creeping Thistle are excellent places to hunt for insects, they can be confiding as they feed on the nectar and pollen a nice selection was found near the viewpoint.
