A New Arrival

8th July 2010, Thursday

At the end of May this year I collected a couple of Garden Tiger caterpillars from the garden at Lime Kiln Cottage (actually in the hope of rearing out some parasitic flies). One of them was heavily parasitised with 22 fly larvae (including Huebneria affinis), but the other one survived and emerged yesterday. This one is a male as you can see the pectinate (comb-like) antennae.
