Castle Water

Roesel’s Bush Crickets are easy to find at Castle Water at the moment, the patch of long grassland near the viewpoint is a good place to look, these superb crickets have only been recorded regularly on the reserve since 2006. Additional highlights from the same area included Marbled White which colonised the small patch of grassland in recent years and Brown Hawker

A New Arrival

At the end of May this year I collected a couple of Garden Tiger caterpillars from the garden at Lime Kiln Cottage (actually in the hope of rearing out some parasitic flies). One of them was heavily parasitised with 22 fly larvae (including Huebneria affinis), but the other one survived and emerged yesterday. This one is a male as you can see the pectinate (comb-like) antennae.
