Rye Harbour Moths

Despite regular torrential downpours during the night, the warm conditions seem to have brought the Lime Kiln moth trap up to date, with a couple of hundred individuals of 37 species trapped overnight. Most abundant are still Common Swift (100 individuals) and Heart & Dart (26), but it was the supporting players which provided the most interest. This included the inevitable Ethmia bipunctella (or perhaps I should be calling it Bordered Ermel now?), always a nice species to see, Green Carpet, Obscure Wainscot and a couple of super Eyed Hawkmoth. The trap also contained one or two Lime-speck Pug, one of a significant number of species which mimic a bird dropping to provide it with protection from predators.
