From Pett sea wall
Sunday 9th May 7am to 10.30 am. High tide was around eleven o’clock, so the tide was well on the way coming up, when I got there. There seemed alot more activity on the seaward side, then there has been for sometime, with good numbers of Terns, mainly Sandwich and Common with one Little Tern, fishing in the bay and roosting on the beach, on the old sea defences, (whats left of them). As the tide came up and covered the beach, waders started to feed on the shingle between the water mark and the sea wall, 10 Sanderling, 4 Common Sand, 40/50 Turnstone, 8 Dunlin. 1 Ringed Plover. also there was some movement of waders over the sea with 30/40 Whimbrel and 1 Br.T.Godwit all moving east. Coming in off the sea were Swifts and Swallows and 1 Hobby. The only other bird of prey was a Buzzard which flew into the trees, on the old sea cliffs at the back of the marsh. We went shopping at ASDA this morning (Monday) and we came out,and I was putting the shopping in the back of the van, when all the gulls started sending out there alarm calls, thinking there was a raptor about, so I started looking up, but it was not a bird of prey at all but 2 Common Cranes flying 40/50 feet up heading west or northwest, the time was 8.38am. Good birdwatching Pete.
