Seen from Pett Seawall
Sunday 11th April 2010. Arrived on the sea wall about 6.30 am, the tide was just starting to come in, with high tide being around 11 to 11.30. For a change there was some passage to note, with a flock of 10 Wigeon flying east, followed by 5 R.B.Mergansers heading west. Common Scoters have built up with the biggest raft of 1oo/150 not far off shore, along with 2 Brent Geese with them, which spent the best part of the morning with them on the sea. Other birds of note on the seaward side was Gannets, Fulmars, 150 Oystercatchers moving east and 2 Whimbrel also heading east. Waders at the Pools Green Sand, Snipe, 20/30 Turnstone, Redshank and 2 L.R.Plover. There was a small movement of Swallow and Linnets all morning all heading east. A good day for birds of prey with 3 Marsh Harriers ( 1 adult male, 2 female). Buzzard ( paler bird than last weeks) and a Red Kite which flew north over Winchelsea, also 2 Raven on the marsh. But the best bird of the day, for me anyway was a male Bullfinch which was seen from the bridge over the R.M.C at Toot Rock. Good bird watching Pete.
