Rained off Sunday out Monday afternoon

1st March 2010, Monday

Monday 1st March 2010. Alot of change since the 22nd Feb ( another wet and windy day ) on that day there was still 31 Brents and 12 White Fronts on the marsh, with a possible 9 Bean Geese flying at the back of the marsh, but the light was not good enough to be sure. Back to this afternoon sightings, still good numbers of dabbling ducks with Wigeon, Shoveler, Mallard, Teal being the most common, with Gadwall and Pintail making up the numbers. Still mainly on the pools, with also quite a raft on the sea. The bird of the afternoon was a nice drake R.B.Merganser flying west. Common Scoter have been very scarce this winter, but there was 20 with the G.C.Grebes and dozen or so R.T.Divers. The only other thing worth mentioning is 300 or so of Curlew and a Green Sand. I hope you have dry weather and good birdwatching Pete.
