Pett Level


The hundreds of Wigeon photographed by Barry this morning provided a background for this (blurred) picture of Greylags, amongst which (but out of the frame) were Whitefronts and Brents. And a Marsh Harrrier (also out of the frame).

Snowy landscapes at Rye Harbour

Flocks of Skylarks were feeding on the saltmarsh where the plants were above the snow, but then another blizzard ended birdwatching!.

Red Kite in Brede Valley

David Slater sent me an email saying:
“…sitting having breakfast this morning (8.30’ish) watched a Red Kite gently and slowly lollop past our kitchen window 30 yards away 20 feet from the ground, over the Wheeler’s cherry orchard – heading towards Float Farm, we triple checked through our three different bird books and can confirm this is what it was.”

White out at Pett Level

This part of the country had its greatest snow fall of the winter (about 15cm) and blizzard conditions were experienced through the morning. At Pett Pools there was a large flock of Wigeon forced close to the road where the snow had blown off the grass.
