Rye Harbour Sightings

8th October 2009, Thursday

On the Beach Reserve and Harbour Farm, many small flocks (and one or two large ones) of Goldfinch were the most obvious feature today, while every path of grassland seemed to be teeming with Meadow Pipit, along with the occasional Wheatear. In addition, six Corn Bunting and a Grey Wagtail overflew Lime Kiln Cottage mid-morning, and around 40 Golden Plover and 60 Lapwing were on Flat Beach Level. Highlights at Castle Water included Green Sandpiper, Pintail and good numbers of Teal and Wigeon. All of this activity attracted the inevitable birds of prey, with a Peregrine over Flat Beach late morning and Buzzard and Marsh Harrier at Castle Water mid-afternon
