The bramble or blackberry is a prominent feature of our autumn countryside. The bushes are laden with berries which provide food for migrant birds, badgers and people. Some of the bushes are also now showing the tell-tale “webs” of the brown tail moth caterpillars and if you closely you can see the tiny caterpillars grazing on the leaf suface. They have the distinctive 2 spots on their thorax which will become orange as they grow. They overwinter within the security of the webs they have been building this week.
