Wasp Spider video

The Wasp Spider is becoming more common and widespread at Rye Harbour and they are well worth a close look. This video shows a female in her web, with the characteristic zig-zag patter. In the second half she expertly deals with a grasshopper, wrapping it up in silk.

Highlights over the past few days have included 2 Peregrine, 3 Hobby, 5 Black-tailed Godwit and Wood Sandpiper at Castle Water. Numbers of waders roosting along Shore Ridges is gradually increasing as late summer/early autumn sets in 90 Oystercatcher, 35 Dunlin, 8 Sanderling, 5 Turnstone and 22 Ringed Plover were present this morning. Harbour Farm pools have attracted Shoveler, Gadwall, Teal, Little Ringed Plover, Whimbrel, Curlew and small groups of Dunlin (pictured).
