Dungeness Wildlife and Countryside Fair

RSPB Dungeness
Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August
10 am to 5 pm.

A great day out for all the family.
Guided walks, pond-dipping, face-painting and lots more! Stalls include: crafts, cards and gifts, local produce and optical equipment. All-day BBQ. Exhibitors include: Stephen Message, David Featherbe, Norman McCanch and Birds Birds Birds.

RSPB Dungeness recent sightings

A bittern was seen from the Hooker’s pits viewpoint at 8 o’clock yesterday morning. Also of note were seven greenshanks flying over early in the day and a hobby seen near the access track The first south-bound whinchat of the year was seen near the demo pond late afternoon

There have been several sightings of lesser emperor dragonflies over the past week with six seen yesterday, including a pair in tandem and ovipositing.

Good numbers of waders were seen at the ARC pit this morning including 15 common sandpipers, two wood sandpipers, two green sandpipers and two dunlin. A garganey was also present. A count of 1158 pochards this morning was the second highest number for the reserve in 40 years.
