Another visit from a green woodpecker

We had another visit from a green woodpecker in our Northiam garden this week, this time a female, lacking the red centre in the black moustache. Rather than probe the lawn it systematically worked the edge of our patio in search of ants.

Rye Harbour Sightings

On Harbour Farm, at least four Little Ringed Plover and nine Avocet (below) were present on the new pits behind Ternery Pool, Barn Owl and male Marsh Harrier were hunting over the fields in front of Watch Cottage and Corn Bunting, Yellow Wagtail and two Grey Partridge were seen on the fields adjacent to Lime Kiln Cottage. At Ternery Pool two Little Tern were roosting on the islands out from Parkes Hide early afternoon.

Rye Harbour Moths

An excellent morning, with 60 species in the Lime Kiln trap, despite the rain. The commonest species today were Heart & Dart and Dark Arches, while the highlights included Ethmia bipunctella, Shore Wainscot, Long-legged Tabby and Peach Blossom (below).
