Inverted emergence
5th May 2009, TuesdayWhile collecting exuviae over the past couple of years, I have often found damselfly exuvia upsidedown (inverted) on emergent vegetation. This morning for the first time I actually saw a Blue-tailed Damselfly perform this inverted emergence. This type of emergence is common with this species and is so far unexplained. The second picture is a female Hairy Hawker pre-flight emergent, also found this morning.
