Castle Water

Highlights this morning from the viewpoint , 45 Little Egret leaving the roost, Bittern, Bearded Tit, Sedge Warbler, Wilow Warbler, Yellow Wagtail, Marsh Harrier , Common Tern and a pair of Great Crested Grebes were displaying. Later, a Reed Warbler was in song at the northern end of the main pit, a Whimbrel was heard calling, 6 Cettis Warbler and many Sedge Warbler were in song, 25 House Martin were feeding high, there was also a brood of Coot. A Whitethroat was singing at Long Pit.

Easter Eggs

It is always a special moment when finding a clutch of eggs, they look so perfect in the nest - not surprising then that egg collecting became so popular and still continues as a threat to rare birds. This clutch of Lapwing was found yesterday and will have to survive three weeks of Carrion Crows, Fox, Badger and other danger before producing tiny chicks…
