RSPB Dungeness

Friday 20th: A raven was seen at the ARC site. Bittern, merlin, avocet and Mediterranean gull were also of note.

Saturday 21st: Black-necked grebe, Slavonian grebe, four avocets, three ruff (all at the ARC site), bittern (Christmas Dell), Iceland gull in the roost alongside the access track.

Sunday 22nd: Ruff, avocet, Mediterranean gull, short-eared owl and rock pipit.

Beach Reserve

A large arrival of Sandwich Terns today with at least 220 roosting at Ternery Pool around lunch time, 170 Meditteranean Gull and 800 Black-headed Gull were also present. Other highlights today included a Merlin along Shore Ridges, 20 Dunlin, 16 Knot and 3 Grey Plover on the Quarry and 12 Snipe on Wader pool.

Ken Halpin - Burial and Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving

A service of celebration and thanksgiving will be held on 3rd April at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Rye Harbour. The burial procession will leave from Stonerunner Cottage in Rye Harbour Village at 12.30 with the service starting at 1pm. After the service in Rye Harbour, proceedings will move to St Mary’s church in Rye where there will be a celebration of Ken’s life at 1.30, followed by high tea in the Rye Harbour Sailing Club. There will then be a walk around Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. Jill has asked that there be no flowers, rather that donations be made to the Bhopal Medical Clinic through Ellis Bros. the undertakers.

Nest pipes 2

The first Wheatears have shown an interest in a nest pipe clickhere , and yesterday being a prime location was fiercely contested, with two males and female involed in the brouhaha. This morning a male was seen exiting the pipe, the entance is concealed amongst the pile of large stones shown below with the male perched nearby.
