Still 55 Bewick’s swans on the marsh today (6 juveniles), far from the roads about half a mile south-east of Old Romney - TR040244. Appeared to be on winter cereal, with the added attraction of some floodwater.

Four bitterns were seen on Tuesday and two today. Black-necked and Slavonian grebes are still present and at least 30 Bewick’s swans roosted on the ARC pit on Tuesday night. A firecrest was seen near the Hanson-ARC hide.
A very spring-like feel to Ternery Pool this morning, with about 150 Black-headed Gull squabbling round the nesting islands and a single Mediterranean Gull in front of Parkes Hide. On Flat Beach Level, still around 1000 Golden Plover and 750 Lapwing with small numbers of Ruff mixed in, while a Goldeneye and four Grey Partridge were seen on Harbour Farm. Lapwing, Ringed Plover and Oystercather were displaying along the Beach Reserve. A Common Seal was in the river.
