Castle Water

Highlights this morning included 3 Long-eared Owl, a drake Pintail, 7 Ruff, 95 Golden Plover and 1000 Lapwing, at the viewpoint a party of 9 Long-tailed Tit gave fine views and 2 woodcock were flushed from the willow scrub.

Search for the Brown Hairstreak

The first Rother Woods Project event of the new year will be a search for Brown Hairstreak eggs this Saturday. Starting 10am at Stonelink Farm, Stubb Lane, Brede (TQ842183). Brown Hairstreak has not been recorded in Rother for many years but that’s not to say they aren’t here! The females descend from tree-tops to lay eggs on blackthorn. We’ll search the excellent blackthorn hedges at Stonelink Farm for the tiny white eggs, and then move off to search hedgerows. Use the link below for a map and directions. click here for map
