Pett Level

With the sea flatter and visibility improving, I’ve just spent a couple of hours on the sea wall in the occasional company of other lost souls, desperately seeking Sunday’s King Eider. Finely plumaged and cracking it may be, but obliging it was not, nor did it show well. Or at all.
Neither is there the mass of birds there were on Sunday, but plenty of GC Grebes, Common Scoters and RT Divers are still to be seen.
I also saw 4 Velvet Scoters flying past and another flapping its wings on the sea, at least 2 BT Divers and 2 straightforward Eiders (f & imm m). I also spoke to someone who told me he’d seen a couple of Slavonian Grebes.

Rye Harbour

Highlights this morning have included at least 3 Bittern, 24 Little Egret and 4 Water Rail from the viewpoint at Castle Water, sadly no calling Cetti’s Warblers. On the Beach Reserve waders feeding along the shore included 111 Knot, 380 dunlin, 20 Grey plover and 108 Curlew, rather quite on Flat Beach of late but 72 Golden Plover were roosting this morning.
