RSPB Dungeness recent sightings


Friday 10: A bittern was seen from the Hooker’s pits viewing point early this afternoon. Two little gulls spent the day feeding over Burrowes pit. Swallows and house martins were seen in small numbers, several flocks of goldfinches were encountered around the trail and a Slavonian grebe was seen from Denge Marsh hide. A male merlin flew across the access track late afternoon.

Thursday 9: Five tree pipits, and good number of robins, blackcaps, goldcrests and chiffchaffs were present in the Denge Marsh gully. Two little gulls were seen over Burrowes pit and there were sightings of swallow and sand martin. A short-eared owl was seen over Denge Marsh and two bitterns were seen from Christmas Dell hide.

Wednesday 8: A dozen redwings and a whitethroat early in the day and a long-eared owl late afternoon were of note.
