Castle Water

Not the best morning to check the Little Egret roost, through the mist the croaking and squabbling egrets could be heard leaving but not seen. Only 22 flew close enough overhead to be counted. Despite the misty start, Barn Owl, Bearded Tit, Cetti’s Warbler and Water Rail were seen or heard. Yesterday highlights from Castle Water included a Common Buzzard which gave great views low over the hide being mobbed by a gang of Jackdaws, wader interest was concentrated on the new excavations with 9 Green Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper, 2 Ruff and 2 Black-tailed Godwit.
