Insect predators

A mid-day walk in Brede High Woods on Sunday found no birds, but much insect activity in the sunny rides and glades. In the larger areas of Heather there was much bee and wasp activity which attracted several huge hunting Hornets. However, the highlight was seeing a Robber fly (probably Machimus cingulatus) with a recently caught hoverfly, land on a post and then turn its body to catch the full sun.
