A windy day

sea

Wildlife watching along the coast was very difficult today with the strong winds. At mid-day the wind speed was 43.3mph, but  the strongest gust of the day was 59.5 mph. Few birds or insects were on the wing, but there were large concentrations of ducks and geese in sheltered locations at Castle Water. In the lee of the hide there were good close views of Sand Martins and Swallows, but the highlight was a female Garganey.
