Just before the spectacular lightning storm passed over last night a number of migrant moths dropped into my roof terrace moth trap in St Leonards On Sea, the best of all being this tree-lichen beauty. In all over 40 species of moth were recorded in just two hours before I had to reluctantly turn the MV lamp off due to the high risk of a lightning strike.

This is the fourth tree-lichen beauty recorded from my roof terrace all appearing at roughly the same time in late July and early August.

Sightings today on the reserve include a flock of thirty snipe, two little stints and little egrets. These were all spotted on the ARC hide. Elsewhere on the reserve little ringed plover, common sandpiper, wood sandpiper, greenshank and black tailed godwit have all been seen.

Highlights from Castle Water this morning, 2 Wood Sandpiper, 10 Common Sandpiper, 5 Green Sandpiper, 11 Bearded Tit and a Marsh Harrier. The new pools on Harbour Farm produced a Little Stint feeding with a small flock of Dunlin, 9 Black-tailed Godwit and 9 Common Sandpiper.
