Rye Harbour Sightings

18th May 2008, Sunday

The monthly WeBS (Wetland Bird Survey) usually produces a good range of birds at this time of year, and today was no exception. On Harbour Farm, highlights were 25+ Avocet, four Little Ringed Plover, and a Whimbrel, while four Grey Plover and three Bar-tailed Godwit were present on the Quarry. At Ternery Pool four adult-plumaged Knot were present briefly late morning, while another two Little Ringed Plover and two Common Sandpiper were visible from Castle Water Hide early afternoon. A real bonus however was a Stone Curlew (below) on West Beach late evening!
