Hairy Hawker are now emerging at Castle Water, the superb pre-flight emergent pictured below was found with exuvia in the ditch north of the hide. The first picture was taken at 9.45am, the wings have just expanded but the abdomen is not full size and the overall colour is still to be aquired. The second picture was taken two and half hours later and the insect is nearly ready for its first flight.

A Hoopoe has just (12.30pm) been reported by Andrew Grace near the pond that is is just north of Guestling church, along the public footpath.
A fine morning and after the Whimbrel count which was 258, a visit to the viewpoint found 6 Garganey (5 drakes) putting on a fantastic chasing display, pictured below. A Hobby, 20 Swift and a few House Martin were also inflight above the viewpoint, Reed, Sedge, and Cettis warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, Whitethroat, Blackcap and Chiffchaff were also in song from the nearby reeds and scrub.
