Rye Harbour Sightings
Despite the cold wet weather there was still lots of activity on and around the reserve this morning. At Ternery Pool this included over 400 Black-headed Gull, 26 Mediterranean Gull and 15 Sandwich Tern (including at least one ringed individual, below), while on Harbour Farm, six Avocet were present on the new pits behind Ternery Pool. Two Wheatear were present throughout the day on the grassy area near the river mouth, while at Castle Water a Kingfisher and eight Sand Martin were seen from the viewpoint mid-afternoon. Still some more typically winter visitors included over 400 Golden Plover on Flat Beach and a Goldeneye on Long Pit.
