Yellow-browed Warbler - Castle Rocks, Hastings

Best to view from the small circular area of open ground called Ladies Parlour between the castle and the West Hill cafe. (TQ821095)

A late whinchat, black redstart and wheatear also reported from the site.

The West Hill is one of two open areas standing above Hastings Old Town. Facing directly onto the sea, it often attracts interesting migrants and is a good place to watch diurnal migration. There’s a nice cafe there too.

Rye Harbour

Highlights this morning, 2 Grey Wagtail, 3 Green Sandpiper, 11 Fieldfare, Marsh Harrier and 100+ Wigeon at Castle Water. 21 Grey Plover, 8 Knot, 72 Ringed Plover and 145 Golden Plover were roosting on Flat Beach. 40+ Greenfinch were feeding along Shore Ridges. An Arctic Skua was hanging around the River Mouth, and a Merlin was present on Harbour Farm.

Suddenly, very few birds on the sea, apart from 2 ad Kittiwakes and some very distant Little Gulls.

Over the marsh, single Fieldfare and Hobby, 2 Ravens and the usual stream of diurnal migrants.
