Red Kite

A Red Kite has just passed over (1.30pm) Lime kiln Cottage heading towards the the River Mouth, the last recorded sighting on the reserve was in early march 1999.

Beach Reserve

Highlights this morning, 210 Golden Plover, 80 Dunlin, 150 Lapwing, 14 Redshank, 2 Grey Plover, 102 Teal, 28 Gadwall, 3 Pintail, 24 Shelduck and 3 Brent Goose were on Flat Beach. 2 Little Stint and a Green Sandpiper were on the new pools behind Ternery Pool. At least one thousand Swallows and 200+ House Martin have passed through during the morning. 200+ Linnet, 60 Meadow Pipit and 50+ Goldfinch were on Harbour Farm.

Rye Harbour walk

A walk from Winchelsea Beach, via the wood, then Castle Water, onto the Beach Reserve and back along to WB. Hobby over Castle Water, 250+ Meadow Pipits mainly E during day, steady but small passage of Swallows E, 15 Siskin over one flock, at least 4 calling Cetti’s Warbler, 3 Clouded Yellow, 2 Wheatear, small flock Wigeon flying round, 15 Sandwich Terns fishing off Wincheslea Beach – also 3 Razorbill and 1 Guillemot close in on sea there.
