Rye Harbour Sightings

25th September 2007, Tuesday

The last butterfly/dragonfly transect of the year found a good range of species still on the wing, with the highlights being Brown Argus, Comma (at Castle Water Hide) and large numbers of Migrant Hawker. At this time of the year these counts are often more interesting for the birds seen, and today was no exception. Both Black-tailed Godwit and Bar-tailed Godwit were visible from the hide around noon, while several Bearded Tit were heard ‘pinging’ from the viewpoint, and there were small knots of Chiffchaff in every bush it seemed! Highlights earlier on in the day included three Grey Plover and two Knot on Flat Beach, over 70 Ringed Plover on Camber, and a Kingfisher sat on top of the camera housing at the Quarry!
