Corn Sow-thistle

The large Dandelion-like flowers of Sonchus arvensis are now common along the main track along Rye Harbour Farm. They are 50mm across on stems a metre or more tall and the underside of the flowers has sticky yellow hairs… just visible on the photo.

News from RSPB Dungeness

Two male blackcap and a willow warbler were in Denge Marsh Gulley yesterday morning, being replaced by a female blackcap, a chiffchaff and a flyover grey wagtail and song thrush today. Four wheatear and a redstart were along the approach track and two common buzzard were circling with three marsh harriers over Boulderwall farm. An osprey flew over yesterday afternoon and three black necked grebes and a garganey can still, be found accross the road on ARC Pit.

Beach Reserve

Highlights this morning, Spotted Redshank, 4 Knot, 71 Dunlin, 56 Ringed Plover and 108 Golden Plover were on Flat Beach. Bar-tailed Godwit (pictured) and Kingfisher were present at the Wader Pool. Peregrine and Marsh Harrier gave good views on Harbour Farm.
