Two shanks

Very quiet this morning, but I had a rewarding 5 minutes at Ternery Pool with two waders that are normally unaproachable. A Greenshank walked close to the Crittall Hide, then I heard the “tu-eet” call of a Spotted Redshank, before it appeared there as well. Then for 5 minutes they fed together, chasing the shrimps that are abundant there. Always on the move they were difficult to follow, but at last I have some photos of these shy birds.

Unusually confiding robin

We have a remarkably tame young robin in our garden at Northiam at the moment. It appeared as a juvenile in mid August following us around the garden while we were weeding, eating spiders and insects disturbed by our activities. Approaching to within a metre or two it will even take food quite happily out of your hand. This photo was taken at a distance of 1-2m. The red breast feathers have just started to appear in the last two weeks. Hope it is not so approachable to the local cats!
