Hastings Country Park
On Sunday morning I had a short walk round Firehills and Warren Glen. There were quite a few Whitethroats, Lesser Whitethroats & Blackcaps in the bushes, with Yellow Wagtails, Tree Pipits, a Hobby and hirundines passing overhead.
To the north of the Coastguard track, 3 Wheatears were dodging dog-walkers on the mown area, while to the south, the rough field was surveyed by a similar number of thistletop Whinchats.
A single Fulmar glided west - I thought they had usually gone by now.
But most unexpected were two Nuthatches moving noisily from Warren Cottage across the little neck of scrub (excellent for watching migrants - if you can keep up with them) to the Quarry. It’s a few years since I saw Nuthatches here, and by coincidence one had been calling outside my house - another scarce occurrence - as I left home.
