Fascinating fasciation

Occasionally some plants grow with very enlarged and flatted stems, this is called Fasciation. For more read here.
Locally this happens to Spear Thistle, but today for the first time we have seen it in Viper’s Bugloss, in the photo below the main example is about 15cm across and the left hand stem only slightly flattened, normal stems are lower down.
