Great Reed Warbler

thanks to the DBO website for news of a singing Great Reed Warbler, which was been found at Pigwell Farm, just west of Lydd at grid ref TR028208.

It has sung for long periods of time in the late afternoon and evening but has rarely showed itself for more than a few seconds at a time.

Car-parking is extremely limited close to the site so please park sensibly.

This bird was reported on Birdguides as still present today.

Bombardier Beetle

I found a small beetle (about 10mm.) hiding under my boot as I was getting ready to go out today. As I tried to pick it up the beetle seemed to explode with a “pop” and created a white cloud behind it !! So, I thought it might be the Bombardier Beetle Brachinus crepitans and the photo confirms this. It is on the Sussex Rare Species Inventory and has only been recorded once before in Rye Bay.
