Rye Harbour Sightings

At Castle Water this morning highlights included three Scaup, two Pintail (with a further five heading east offshore mid-afternoon), 53 Gadwall and 98 Wigeon visible from the hide, two Bullfinch in trees nearby, and a flock of 22 Fieldfare near the northern end of the pit. At Narrow Pits, two Long-eared Owl were present and showing well at the traditional roost site, while two Rock Pipit (below) were again present near Lime Kiln Cottage.

Filsham Reedbed

While working at Filsham Reedbed yesterday, 2 water rails and 2 cetti’s were heard. Late afternoon saw a juvenile marsh harrier drift over the reedbed, only to be mobbed by the local crows.
