Rain has raised the water level up among the willows, giving the wildfowl a place to hide and making them hard to count, but I managed to see 57 Mallard, 20 Teal, 31 Gadwall, 30 Tufted Ducks and 2 GC Grebes. Coot (28) have returned earlier than last year, 18 Mandarins crashed out of the waterside scrub where 9 Cormorants were roosting in an oak. Single Kingfisher and Grey Wagtail were also in the area.
At the head of the reservoir, cloudy green water has backed up into crocodile country, luring Dabchicks up into narrow creeks among the mossy willow swamp, while the muddy scent drifted into drier parts of the woodland.
