Two Firecrest was a surprise find in my garden in Rye Harbour village today.
Still good numbers of birds on Flat Beach Level after the recent high tides. This morning this included an estimated 800+ Golden Plover (below), 300+ Lapwing, 73 Dunlin, seven Shelduck and four Redshank, as well indeterminate numbers of Skylark, Meadow Pipit and Reed Bunting. Counting of the more abundant species was made much more difficult due to the presence of a hunting Marsh Harrier which regularly caused birds to take flight, usually when I had almost finished counting them!
