Pett Level

Some of the more interesting of 81 species seen this morning were: Red-throated Diver, f Marsh Harrier, Woodcock, Guillemot, Swallow, Water Pipit, Brambling and Tree Sparrow.

Bittern Sunset

The first sighting this winter of Bittern was made this evening, just as I was taking a photo of the spectacular sunset from the Narrow Pits. If you look carefully it is the  bird flying out of the right side of the picture, about halfway down!

Rye Harbour Sightings

On Long Pit late-morning one Goldeneye, two Scaup, 102 Pochard and 160 Tufted Duck were present, while at least two Water Rail were heard calling. At Castle Water a Marsh Harrier was present hunting over the main pit, while waterfowl included 81 Wigeon, 71 Shoveler, 35 Gadwall, a further three calling Water Rail and a male Mandarin! On Flat Beach Level still 12 Brent Geese along with small numbers of Dunlin, Ringed Plover and Redshank, while six Red-legged Partridge (below) were at Ternery Pool. Offshore a Guillemot and a Red-throated Diver could be seen quite close to shore, with a raft of 50+ Common Scoter on the sea further out.
