From the top of Chick Hill, I could see small groups of Common Scoters scudding above the grey waves. Then a Greater Black-back was harassing a smaller bird well out to sea…I watched as they got closer…the gull gave up and the small bird turned out to be a f Merlin, which finally flew right past me. Either it had come in from elsewhere or had been out in the bay, hunting the Skylarks making for the coast. Shortly afterwards, a Peregrine went dashing past over the hillside. There were Redwings with the Song Thrushes in the holly bushes.
