Rye Harbour Sightings

The Buff-breasted Sandpiper was still present on Flat Beach Level this afternoon, viewable from the Wader Pool Hide or the footpath. Also present here today a Curlew Sandpiper, 12 Brent Geese, Merlin and Wheatear.

On Monday morning, my first Redwings of the autumn were shrilling in the treetops on Chick Hill and a Brambling was calling among the many migrants flying E overhead: Swallows, Goldfinches, Linnets, Greenfinches, Chaffinches, Meadow Pipits, Pied Wagtails, Skylarks, and a few Siskins and Lesser Redpolls. Stock Doves have also been moving E the last few days – I’ve seen them here and at HCPLNR.

Apart from the Swallows, summer birds were represented by a few Chiffchaffs and a lone Reed Warbler.

I could see about 20 Brents wheeling over the marsh – probably the same flock Pete Rouse saw on Sunday, when he also had 3 Egyptian Geese.
