News from RSPB Dungeness

Today’s highlight was a Montagu’s harrier flying over the reserve and spending a considerable amount of time over the water tower. Marsh harrier was also recorded on the reserve.

A good variety of waders were reported including: curlew, whimbrel, greenshank, common, green and curlew sandpiper, black-tailed godwit and ruff.

A female red-crested pochard was still visible from Denge Marsh hide.

Other sightings included a black tern, spotted from Denge Marsh hide and a little gull on ARC pit and whinchat.

This large (12cm. long) puff-ball was found on the grassland near Camber Castle. I think it may be Calvatia utriformis.

Rye Harbour Sightings

At least three Wood Sandpiper were present on the reserve yesterday evening, one on Ternery Pool and two on the Quarry along with a Little Stint. A Black Tern was also seen in flight over Flat Beach Level.
