Migrant Hawker

24th July 2006, Monday

Migrant Hawkers  are begining to emerge around the Reserve now, the flight season lasts from late July to well into the autumn. In the 1940s this species was an uncommon migrant from southern Europe, it has extended its range in Britain from a pioneering breeding population in the south-east, were it it is now common. The resident population is boosted each summer with regular migrations from the continent. Immature female pictured.
