Waders returning
It is mid-summer, and the waders are on the move, already returning from their northern breeding grounds . The most obvious species now is the Lapwing, which although breeding locally in small numbers, is now seen in big flocks. At Castle Water today about 500, mostly adults that are moulting. There is also a scattering of Green Sandpiper and Curlew are increasing, soon to be joined by many, more difficult to identify species.
